Deep Ecology Workshop with John Seed and friends

September 26th | 8:30AM-7:30PM ET | Pomona, NY

Join us with renowned deep ecology activist and author John Seed joining live from Australia, and Erika Aligno, Director of the Institute for Deep Ecology, in-person, for an immersive workshop exploring our relationship with the living world. Co-Facilitated by Laurie Seeman and Alan Levin. Seed’s work draws on the pioneering ecological philosophy of Joanna Macy and Thomas Berry, whose ideas helped shape the deep ecology movement. This is a rare and powerful opportunity to engage with some of the most thoughtful voices in ecological philosophy and practice.

Empowering Children through a Wholeness Approach to Learning: An Educator Workshop

September 27th | 9AM-5PM ET | Garnerville, NY

For educators, teaching artists, community leaders, parents, and anyone who wants to bring deep ecology perspective and creative nature connection to their youth and communities.

In today’s fragmented world, how do we raise children who feel a sense of health, wholeness, and belonging? Join us to explore learning through a living systems lens, drawn from Strawtown’s 25 years of experience. Teaching through relationships builds big-picture thinking and shapes children’s world view. When combined with nature, art, and science, children begin to experience the inter-connectedness of all life. When we see the river isn’t just water in a valley, but connected to the land, beings, towns, and people whose choices affect it, past and present, we can begin to imagine new ways for the future.

You’ll leave with practices and activities you can bring directly into your own life and teaching – weaving nature experience, art-making, and scientific inquiry into work that feels whole and alive, for you and for the young people and communities you support.
