Healing the Colonizer Mind Workshop Series

We at Interhelp were very pleased to partner with Louise Dunlap to offer a Healing The Colonizer Mind workshop series in 2024. We offered four workshops that explored topics from Louise’s book Inherited Silence: Listening to the Land, Healing the Colonizer Mind and followed the spiral of the Work That Reconnects. We are grateful for the opportunity this series provided for cross-pollination between the communities that Louise works with and the Interhelp community. Here’s what some people said about their experience:
“This is perhaps the most powerful zoom event I have participated in.”
“I so appreciated the community space to acknowledge the legacy burdens of ancestral wounding and perpetrator grief. It served to dissipate some of the loneliness I carry around these things.”
“I felt so much less alone at the end of the three hours. I can’t believe how it flew by. Thank you so very much.”
Colonizer mind is an orientation that has caused deep wounding, suffering, and destruction to not only Indigenous peoples and the earth, but also in different ways to the perpetrators of these massive harms. Dismantling mindsets that view some humans as superior to other life and subsequently are entitled to dominate is essential work for these times. This workshop series was a powerful opportunity to do some of the necessary deep inner and outer work of healing the colonizer mind. We are so grateful for this opportunity to learn with Louise and from her wise eldership.
Interhelp was glad to be able to cover some of the overhead of the series so that participants could attend these four workshops with no registration fee. Instead, participants were encouraged to make a contribution in an amount of their choosing to an Indigenous cause or organization as a material act of support.
Pop-up Support Circles

Interhelp offers periodic pop-up support circles when there is a particular need for it such as a Climate Power Hour with Janna Diamond [8/19/24], and an Election Anxiety Support Circle with Aravinda Ananda and Janna Diamond [11/4/24].
Climate News Support Circle

Facilitated by Anne Goodwin and Aravinda Ananda, this Climate News Support Circle met over the course of 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings in February. It provided an opportunity to process news climate news stories and drawing upon tools from the Work That Reconnects, it offered a kind and compassionate space to bring feelings of overwhelm into the caring presence of others, cultivating greater collective capacity to turn towards a world in crisis.
Connection & Conversation Spaces

Connect in Community: Where do we go from here?
March 30, 2025 | 3-5PM ET | Zoom
Have you been struggling to keep up with what is happening in our world and make sense of the implications of what is happening?
Would it feel supportive to gather with others in community and share what is weighing on you and explore what to do next?
This Zoom session was facilitated by Aravinda Ananda and Joseph Rotella. Rather than doing a full Work That Reconnects spiral with practices as is typical for Interhelp events, this event prioritized time to be in conversation with one another, similar to if you were sitting at the dinner table together or at a cafe. A combination of small group conversations in breakouts, whole group discussion and music.
