Community Leadership Cohort

Community Leadership Cohort for the Work That Reconnects

September 25-29, 2015, Rowe, MA

The Community Leadership Cohort is designed for people who would like to establish (or continue to enrich) a Work That Reconnects (WTR) community or practice group in their local area. After an initial gathering, cohort members will be encouraged to stay connected with one another and support one another in experiencing WTR practices on a regular basis, improving  facilitation skills, and helping to share this work with others in our local areas.

The Work That Reconnects is known worldwide for empowering activists in social and ecological justice. Developed by Joanna Macy and her colleagues, this dynamic, interactive body of work has inspired many thousands of people to engage wholeheartedly in the Great Turning to a life-sustaining society. Described in the book, Coming Back to Life, it brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten all life on Earth.

Program Format:

The Fall 2015 Community Leadership Cohort will begin on the afternoon of Friday September 25th from 2:00-5:30pm. We will then join a larger group for a workshop with Joanna Macy and Anita Barrows from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. The Cohort will meet alone again from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon (4pm finish time). These last two days with just our Cohort will provide a valuable opportunity for us to collaboratively explore and experiment as facilitators of the WTR, and to vision and plan for organizing “practice groups” in the regions where we live. As a group we will decide how we would like to remain connected and support each other in our ongoing work.

Price:

This cohort has a two-part fee structure:

1) If you are not already independently registered for the weekend workshop, the cost for that portion is on a sliding scale of $300-$430 depending on your income and choice of accommodations (options are commuting, tenting, unheated cabin and winterized cabin).

2) The second part of the fee is for accommodations and meals for our “cohort only” time (Sunday afternoon-Tuesday afternoon) and is either $130 or $145 depending on if you are in a cabin or a dorm.

Facilitators:

JosephAravindaAravinda Ananda and Joseph Rotella are convening this cohort. They are both members of the Interhelp Council – a group of Work That Reconnects facilitators and supporters. In fall 2014 and spring 2015 they were part of the facilitation team for the Earth Leadership Cohort – a young adult immersion program in the Work That Reconnects. They have offered many workshops in the last five years and were on the facilitation team for Joanna Macy’s spring 2015 workshop at Rowe. Recently, they helped to establish a monthly meeting of a WTR Community of Practice in the Boston area where they live.

Application Process:

Please submit your completed application by July 15th to aravinda.ananda@gmail.com to be considered for this program. You will be notified of acceptance by August 1st and will need to pay a registration fee of $100 by August 15th to secure your place.
